Tour start and finish in Healdsburg, California:Welcome200x200

Your tour begins at our Healdsburg Touring Center with a bike fitting and orientation by one or our professional guides. We'll take the time to review the route with you, give personal tips and advice and answer any questions you may have. After that you'll be traveling on your own, but we'll always be just a phone call away. Your rooms will be reserved and your luggage transferred and your mind at rest.

GrnvalleyDay One: Green Valley & "West County"

Healdsburg to Occidental: (25 miles plus options). Down the east side of the Russian River Valley, past vineyards and old apple orchards, you'll head for the town of Graton. Enjoy lunch at the Willow Wood Café, visit the cute shops and galleries or take a short side trip to visit Iron Horse Vineyards or one of the many other wineries in the area. But save some energy, because your day finishes with the challenge of the climb up Harrison Grade to the town of Occidental!

Couplecoast200 (1)

Day Two: Pacific Ocean & Russian River

Occidental to Guerneville: (25 miles plus options). Spectacular Coleman Valley Road starts with a challenge but ends with an incredible reward.  Climb high on the bluff above the rugged Pacific as waves crash against the rocky coast.  Descend down to visit with the seals sunning on shore, or scratch your back on the mammoth rocks, before turning inland and  following the Russian River through the ranches and redwoods to the old resort town of Guerneville.

Armstrong

Day Three: Redwoods & Wine Country

Guerneville to Healdsburg (20 miles plus options). Start your day dwarfed by thousand year old trees in nature’s cathedral at the Armstrong Woods Redwood Preserve. From there you’ll have the classic choice - over the mountain or around the mountain? Choose "over" and you'll experience the steep and spectacular Sweetwater Springs Road or "around" and lunch and a tour at Korbel "Champagne" Cellars. Either way you’ll spend your afternoon rolling past organic farms, vineyards and artisanal wineries.

Spoonbar

Day Four: Healdsburg & The Dry Creek Valley

Healdsburg Loop (multiple distance options). Spend the day exploring the Dry Creek Valley and surrounding areas. You'll have options from a casual 15-25 mile winery tour to the challenge of climbing to the Lake Sonoma Lookout. It's beautiful, it's pastoral, it's bicycle touring at its best!  And what better way to spend your last night than in the amazing town of Healdsburg.  Check out the farmer’s market, stroll off the plaza through the old Victorian & Craftsman neighborhoods, or relax in the Flying Goat with a coffee.

Day Five: Departure Day

Take a last morning spin in the Healdsburg area, enjoy the day at leisure, or depart early for home.

Tour Difficulty

Tour Difficulty

This tour is designed for intermediate level or higher cyclists.
You will be riding up 20- 35 miles per day (with lots of longer options available) on mostly rolling hills with a couple longer challenging climbs on Day 1 and Day 2 going out to the coast and redwoods.  These climbs are from 1 to 2 miles in length with some steep sections (up to 15%) - which even an intermediate cyclist may choose to walk.  Day 3 and Day 4 rides have options to be shorter with just rolling hills.

An intermediate level cyclist:
Cycles about once a week or more on average
Good cycling skills- Experienced on more challenging terrain and few busier traffic areas
Good to Very Good fitness- exercises regularly
Comfortable riding up to 40 miles (64k)

Detailed Description:

Day one starts at our Touring Center in the Town of Healdsburg and the total direct riding distance is about 23 miles (of course, there’s also lots of options to add more).  The first half of the ride is down the east side of the Russian River Valley and is mostly flat and rolling hills.  After 12 miles you climb for one mile, stair stepping up the moderate (200ft total climb with 3-6% grades) of Vine Hill Road, before making a short descent into Green Valley and the Town of Graton. Here you’ll have a chance to take a break, get an awesome lunch, maybe visit a winery or two and explore the area a bit. When you’re ready you’ll head west on Green Valley Rd. with another moderate one mile climb (200ft total climb with 3-7% grades) before descending  to cross Green Valley Creek and start your largest climb of the tour- up Harrison Grade and into the Coastal Range.  The climb is about 2 miles long and stair steps up with some steeper sections (575ft total climb with 3-12% grades).  Many people choose to stop and take breaks during the climb or to walk the steep sections which are broken up and a total of less than a mile. From here you have just a couple flat and downhill miles to the town of Occidental.

WCB IAO Elevation

Day two gets the climbing over with right in the beginning as you leave Occidental and climb over two ridges to the Pacific Ocean.  Both climbs are about 1.5 miles long and stair step up with some steeper sections (400ft total climb with 3-11% grades). In this incredibly beautiful area, many people again choose to stop and take breaks during the climb or to walk the steep sections, which are broken up and a total of less than a mile. The next 6 miles along the coast is rolling hills and can be windy, but once you turn inland your last 10 miles should be easy sailing with flat roads and a tailwind.

Occ Grnv Elevation (1)

Day Three & Four are shorter distances with just rolling hills and no major climbs (unless you’d like them!).
