Tour start and finish in Healdsburg, California:
When you arrive at our Touring Center in the town of Healdsburg on the morning of your tour start we’ll provide you with all the equipment and information that you’ll need for your trip. We'll fit you to your bike, outfit you with your gear and provide a custom created trip package that will include maps, route descriptions and area information. We'll take the time to review the route with you, give personal tips and advice and answer any questions you may have. After that you'll be traveling on your own, but we'll always be just a phone call away. Your rooms will be reserved and your luggage transferred and your mind at rest.
Day One:
Healdsburg to Occidental: (25 miles plus options). Today’s ride starts heading down the east side of the Russian River Valley towards and into western Sonoma County. You’ll make your way through old apple country to the town of Graton and the rolling hills of Green Valley. Here you can take a break to explore the two blocks we call "downtown Graton" with it's cute shops and galleries or take a short side trip to visit Iron Horse Vineyards. Your day finishes with the challenge of a 600 foot climb into the redwood forests and town of Occidental.
Day Two:
Occidental to Guerneville: (30 miles plus options). For the adventurous this will be your day to experience the Sonoma Coast. Our favorite route takes you through the coastal range on the spectacular Coleman Valley Road. Leaving Occidental your day will start with a challenging climb of about one and a half miles and then a short descent into the bucolic valley where you can roll peacefully along recovering for a second similar climb up onto the ridge above the coast. The work you put in, however, will be rewarded in spectacular fashion by views from high on the bluff of the rugged Pacific with waves crashing against the rocky shore below. After descending to sea level you’ll turn north and ride for about 8 miles of small rolling hills alongside the Sonoma Coast State Beaches to the mouth of the Russian River. You may choose to stop for a walk out on Goat Rock Beach to visit with the seals sunning on shore, before following the river for another flat 10 miles inland to the town Guerneville.
Day Three:
Guerneville to Healdsburg (approximately 20 miles plus options). We recommend you start your day with a short side trip to the Armstrong Woods Redwood Preserve (home to over 350 foot tall Redwoods!). From there you’ll have the classic choice -- over the mountain or around the mountain? If you choose "over" you'll experience the steep narrow twisting Sweetwater Springs Road. It winds through the Redwoods and swoops through the canyon. If you go around, you will continue along the Russian River past Korbel "Champagne" Cellars and numerous wineries of the lower Russian River appellation. Either way you will end up on the incredible Westside Road rolling north past organic farms, vineyards and wineries to the wonderful town of Healdsburg. Here you can enjoy a stroll around the old Spanish style plaza, dine in a fabulous restaurant and spend the night at a comfortable inn right in town.
Day Four:
Healdsburg Loop (multiple distance options). Spend the day exploring the Dry Creek Valley and surrounding areas. You'll have options from a casual 25 mile winery tour to the challenge of climbing to the Lake Sonoma Lookout. It's beautiful, it's pastoral, its bicycle touring at its best. You will stay a second night at your inn.
